According
to paragraph 17 of the „Landesgleichstellungsgesetz“ (German law) the equal
opportunities representative contributes to the implementation of this law as
well as all provisions and actions that (may) influence gender equality. This
accounts in particular for social, organizational and personnel actions, including
job advertisements, selection procedures and job interviews. The equal
opportunities representative is an equal member of assessments. Further tasks are
the setup and changes of the plan for the promotion of women as well as the
report of its implementation. Additionally, she advises and supports employees
in questions about equality. Finally, she implements the research-oriented
standards on gender equality of the DFG (German Research Foundation) and the
guidelines of the WGL (Leibniz Association) at the IUF.
The
IUF – Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine is
specifically committed to equal opportunities for women and men and aims at a balanced
gender ratio on all hierarchy levels. Respecting the priority of aptitude,
qualification and professional achievements (Article 3(3) Basic Law) the IUF strives
to fully promote the professional career of women. One main aspect is the compatibility
of family and profession.
IUF is
committed to a family friendly and phase of life conscious personnel policy and
has reobtained the certificate “work and family” for its efforts in 2017. This
management instrument is offered by the “berufundfamilie Service GmbH”,
initiating and directing a sustainable process of compatibility.
IUF was
first certified in 2013. For this the status quo in a broad range of fields of
action was analyzed, the potential for improvement was identified and
objectives and measures for the next 3 years were determined. The progress is
now checked annually by the “berufundfamilie Service GmbH” on the basis of a
report. Measures of the first 3 years have been e.g. the establishment of the
parent-child room, the communication of existing flexibility options and leave
of absence for family-friendly working times in the intranet and an information
package for new coworkers. With the successful reauditing “work and family”,
the further development of family friendly and phase of life conscious
personnel policy at IUF will focus in particular on the following fields of
action in the next 3 years: work organization, workplace as well as information
and communication.
